Hello my lovely readers!
Yes, right on trend, I am writing after being MIA for a few months. It’s usually for good reason and I can tell you that I am especially excited to tell you what I’ve been up to for the last few months.
To start, my trip to NYC this year didn’t happen – instead the government decided that my bf and I owed all of our trip money to income taxes right before we booked our hotel and flights. I’d like to believe that everything happens for a reason and New York will happen when I’m ready for it again. Instead I had a lovely group of friends over to my apartment and we had some delicious snacks and drinks and chatted while playing party games.
Every year after my birthday I usually feel extra inspired to start a new project or life change and this year was no different. On April 7, 2015 I started the Fit Girls Guide 28 Day Jumpstart Challenge. The what, you ask? Fit Girls Guide is a series of healthy plans to get you on track to becoming a fit and fierce lady. There are a few different books that guide you through healthy, clean eating, working out and making small changes in your everyday routine to help you become a healthier person.
Since I started in April, I’ve lost 21 lbs and gained a whole lot of confidence and motivation to finally get myself on track to becoming a healthier human. I’ve struggled with weight-loss and healthy eating my entire life and if you look through the archives in this blog you will find a lot of ups and downs throughout my many failed journeys. This is totally okay because no one is perfect and the main thing is that I just keep trying.
I have several goals for the next few months and a really big influence on getting in shape and healthy is my dad’s wedding in Mexico in February 2016! I’m so happy and excited to be standing in the wedding and am looking forward to looking flawless in a bikini by then – I never thought I’d say that before, I’m totally a one-piece kind of girl. Not only do I want to look and feel good, but I’m getting older and I feel like my health should be one of my top priorities. I fee like your body and health is your responsibility and like raising a child or caring for a pet, you should care equally for yourself. So yes, it’s like I’m metaphorically saying that I’m like a puppy and I need to make sure I stay alive.
This is my Lite Journey – also a secondary blog I started on Tumblr to hold myself accountable and track my progress. If you’d like to follow along you can also search for the tag #litejourney on Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter.
Thank you so much for reading and supporting my journey, no matter what round it may be. I’m focused and determined and nothing can stop me!
After countless nights of dreaming of crowded streets and breathtaking views, I’ve decided that I will return to NYC this year for my birthday. All corniness aside, I have seriously dreamt about New York City several times a week in the last 11 months since I was there last year. I posted my first impression of the city back when I went for work in March 2014. It was everything I hoped for, but since I was there for business, I barely touched the surface of what the city had to offer. I’m talking no visits to Central Park, not even a close-up view of lady liberty. I was stuck in Times Square for four days which is why I think these crazy dreams keep coming to me. I feel like there is much unfinished business that I need to take care of before I can sleep soundly again.
The last few weeks I have been dedicating HOURS to planning this trip. I will be going on my own time with my boyfriend – who has never been before – and I think he thinks I’ve gone a bit loopy in the process. Every night involves talks of NYC-this and NYC-that, I’m sure he will be just as relieved as I will be once we finally go on this trip! I have planned a four-day itinerary that involves some of my favourite stops from last year and the many more place and things I’d like to see this time around. Since we will be in the city on my actual birthday, I’ve decided that we will head to Hoboken, NJ to visit the Cake Boss at Carlos’ Bakery for some celebratory treats. I’m a huge fan of the TLC show and who doesn’t like a little Italian pastry every once in a while? (#cannolis, am I right?)
We will spend our three nights at the beautiful Park Lane Hotel overlooking Central Park. I couldn’t help but get excited when I found out this hotel is attached to Lady Gaga’s house… If you didn’t know, I’m a die hard fan. I plan on taking a horse carriage ride around the park, eat a cronut for the first time, visit Rockefeller Centre, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, window shop on 5th Avenue, visit FAO Swchartz, see the Statue of Liberty, explore some museums and eat all the best New York foods. Ambitious? Perhaps, but I’m confident that I will be overly exhausted when I get back on our flight home to Canada and just as fulfilled. Then I will feel like my mission is complete and New York City will have been concurred, until next time of course.
I will undoubtedly post about my trip when I get back. We are set to fly out at the end of next month. Bon Voyage!
I think it’s safe to say that life has been a little busy for me – considering I haven’t written in over three months. Rest assured that I am still here, I am just very busy with living life, but I am happy and in the midst of getting healthier and I felt like it was a good time to check-in.
Since our last talk, my sixth anniversary with my honey bee passed, we spent our first Christmas away from home, we visited our friends and family back up North in the new year and my jewellery business, Birch Jewellery, has been growing a lot. Things are progressing in every aspect of my life, some slower than others, but all in the right direction. Exciting things have happened to friends and family and not so nice things too, but such is life and we just need to keep moving forward.
The next few weeks/months/year/century I will be working towards getting healthy by eating cleaner and being active. This is something that I’ve struggled with for a long time and even though I’ve failed in the past, I’m always willing to pick myself up and try again. It’s too easy to slip into old, unhealthy habits so I’m hoping that by creating new ones I will finally latch on to this new lifestyle.
Perhaps the biggest thing I’m really looking forward to is launching my very own website for Birch Jewellery that will feature an amazing online store, blog and new home for my creations. I’ve been approached by some really cool people about selling my items in their store and encouraged by others to start selling in local shops so this is something that I have been working really hard towards. I’m hoping that all of this excitement will officially be launched sometime in February and I will be sure to update y’all throughout the process.
Long story short, life is challenging me in so many great ways and I’m very excited to see what is to come. Though I’m sure there will be some lows in the process, but I’m always open to adventure. Thank you for reading and we’ll chat again soon! (I promise.)
I know I’m a little late on this one, but I owe so many wonderful people a HUGE thank you for supporting Birch Jewellery at the Etsy Made in Canada show that happened a couple weekends ago. WOW – I have never felt so much love, ever. There were some familiar faces that popped in to see me as well as new ones I hope to see again soon. There was a whopping 4000 people that attended the show on top of the 150+ vendors.
I had such a blast networking with other sellers and selling my handmade love to Ottawa that I think I will be doing it more often and hopefully again soon. Again, thank you from the deepest, glorious depths of my heart. Your support, Tweets, Facebook likes, hashtags, text messages and presence has made me realize that selling art is very achievable in everyday life. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I would also like to thank the beautiful and talented Grace Odumo of 613Style.com for meeting with me earlier last week to talk about my growth with Birch Jewellery and for taking such lovely photos of me. You can read the article HERE and stay tuned for another surprise on her blog next week! Grace, your interest and love for local fashion and entrepreneurs is the boost of happy sunshine I needed after such a hectic show. Thank you.
With all of this being said, you may notice that my Etsy shop is a little low on stock at the moment and some of your favourite pieces may be MIA. Hang in there, supplies have been ordered and are on their way for the big holiday rush that is inevitably on its way.
Today is a very special Monday as it is the first day of autumn. As most of you have probably figured out by now, fall is my absolute favourite season and I think this F. Scott Fitzgerald quote tops it all off. In addition to the gorgeous scenery that autumn brings, the changing of any season inspires a fresh start for the days and months to come. There are new activities to do, new people to meet and see and even the changing weather brings a refreshing new look on life.
All the best with your Monday and for the new season ahead.
